Block Merge Arena
Drop numbered blocks, merge neighbors, clear lines, chain combos.
Click a piece (or 1/2/3) · click a cell to drop · arrows + Space to place · U undo · R restart · M mute
How to play
- Place small shapes near the edges to keep the center of the board open for big shapes.
- Adjacent same-number cells merge after each placement and chain merges score huge bonuses.
- Clearing a full row or column wipes the cells and stacks the combo on top of your current chain.
- You only have one undo per game. Save it for a placement that obviously closes off the board.
Controls
- Use mouse to select and place shapes.
- Tap one of the three shapes at the bottom, then tap any valid cell on the board to drop it.

Block Merge Arena — placement, merges and combos
Block Merge Arena is an original block-placement game built for New.gg. You get three numbered shapes at a time. Drop them onto an eight by eight grid. Clear full rows and columns the usual way, but also merge any touching cells that share a number. The merge step happens automatically after every placement, and chain merges feed into a combo multiplier that quickly inflates your score.
The board is small on purpose. With only sixty-four cells, every shape you place either opens a future move or closes one. Good runs come from spotting two-step setups: a small shape that bumps a 4 next to another 4, that then turns into an 8, that then completes a row. The undo button is a single safety net per game. Use it when you placed a shape that obviously kills your next turn.
Scoring
Each placed cell scores a small base. Merges add bonus points based on the combined value of the cluster. Line clears add their own bonus. When several of these happen in a row, the combo multiplier grows and the next merge or clear scores at the higher rate. Big numbers come from setups that produce a long merge chain followed by a line clear, not from one big shape.
Tips for a long run
Keep the center of the board clear. The center is the only place a 2x2 or longer shape can land safely once the edges fill in. Pair low numbers along edges to set up easy first merges. When the screen looks busy, sweep a column clear before placing anything new — a single column reset can save the whole game.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Block Blast?
No. Block Merge Arena is an original New.gg game with its own scoring, shapes, and merge mechanic. It is not a clone of any existing block puzzle.
How does the merge work?
After a placement, any cluster of two or more touching cells with the same number merges into one cell with double the value. Merges can chain.
When does the game end?
When none of the three current shapes can be placed anywhere on the board.
Are my scores saved?
Your best score is saved in your browser. Clearing site data clears it.
